In short: Light food is fine; wait at least 1 hour before eating a heavy meal.
After a sauna, your body is focused on cooling down. Blood vessels are widened, fluids are lost through sweating, and digestion is temporarily slowed.
Eating a heavy meal straight away creates competing demands for blood flow. Your skin needs it for cooling, and the stomach needs it for digestion. This can lead to headaches, dizziness, or nausea. Dehydration can make these symptoms worse if fluids aren’t replaced first.
Best practice:
Rehydrate first
Cool down for 30–60 minutes
Choose light, hydrating foods like fruit, yogurt, soup, salads, or eggs.
Save heavy, greasy, spicy foods and alcohol for later (1+ hour)

Short Answer: 1–1.5 litres of fluid for a 55-minute sauna session.
In a traditional 55-minute sauna session (three 15-minute rounds with short breaks), most people lose around 1–1.5 litres of fluid, and sometimes up to 2 litres in hotter conditions or if they sweat heavily.
Fluid loss increases with multiple rounds, as the body stays warm and sweating ramps up in later sessions.
Best practice: Sip water between rounds and rehydrate well after your session. Consider electrolytes if you’re sweating heavily or doing cold plunges.
